THE SNOW MAIDEN
Elitonia based this photo shoot on a character from an old Russian fairy tale, called ‘The Snow Maiden’.
‘Snegurka’ was the snow maiden and made of snow - she was ‘of the winter’ and also the daughter of Spring (Весна-Красна). She yearned for the companionship of mortal humans.
Snegurka grew to like a young shepherd named Lel, but her heart was unable to know love. Her mother takes pity on her and gives her the ability to feel emotion, but as soon as she falls in love, her heart warms and she melts.
This version of the story was made into a play The Snow Maiden by Aleksandr Ostrovsky, with incidental music by Tchaikovsky in 1873.
The Final Result
Behind the Scenes
This photo shoot was done in the perfect location deep in the heart of the Cotswolds but on the day of the photo shoot it was the coldest day of the year and when the team arrived on location for the shoot, the team quickly realised that they had a very limited time frame to work with before it got too cold for model, Sophie Organ. They managed to get a handful of shots before it became impractical to carry on shooting, but the team pulled together and did a wonderful job.
